August 17, 2026 — Rules: publish with review, counters and expressions

This update improves the rules engine and the Explore and Metrics charts.

Publishing rules with review

Publishing a rule version now requires reviewing the changes against the active version. The comparison now also includes the actions, in addition to the conditions. See Versioning.

New action: add to temporary variable

The Add to temporary variable action adds a step (by default +1) to a counter that is only valid during the evaluation of the event. Useful for counting independent signals and deciding with a simple comparison, such as %pernas >= 2. It complements the temporary variable.

Expressions with true, false and multiple lines

Condition expressions now accept the literals true and false and can span multiple lines. See the expression syntax.

Automatic granularity in charts

The Explore and Metrics charts gained the Granularity selector with the Auto option, which chooses the most readable interval for the period and indicates which one was applied (for example, Auto (1 hour)). See Metrics.
